Petrillo HVACR Today Two Vietnam veterans living in Phoenix have new air conditioning systems in their homes, courtesy of Dial One Mears Air Conditioning and Heating, Johnstone Sup-ply, Lennox, and Habitat for Humanity. Earlier this year, James Gentry, a dis-abled Vietnam veteran, contacted Habitat for Humanity to ask for assistance with home repairs that were beyond his budget. He spoke with Habitat’s Family Services Department about its Neighborhood Revi-talization program, and specifically about its veterans focus, which seeks to help keep veterans in their own homes when repairs arise that are beyond their reach. Gentry told Habitat that he had been without cooling in his home for approxi-mately 4.5 years. Habitat didn’t have the resources to assist Gentry before summer, so David Smith of Habitat reached out to Adam Atkinson, co-owner of Dial One Mears to ask if they could assist. Atkinson said they’d love to help out. Atkinson said, We know the impact cooling, or lack of it, can have on some-one’s quality of life. It’s why we do what we do. So, when Habitat for Humanity approached us, it was an easy decision.” Atkinson and co-owner Troy Martin vis-ited Gentry’s home to establish a relation-ship with the veteran and get an idea of what they’d need to get the job done. While there, they realized the project would be larger than originally anticipated since Gen-try only had evaporative cooling in the home.
